The Black Poplar, Populus nigra, of the Salicaceae family, is a tree which takes its name from the people, from the crowd which moves in slow motion, in reference to its leaves agitated by the wind. It makes it possible to obtain a macerate of buds traditionally recognized as useful in cases of arteritis because it is antithrombotic. Its buds are rich in propolis, hence common properties in cases of bronchitis or tracheitis. Indeed, propolis is reputed to be anti-infectious and poplar bud macerate stimulates the immune system and helps fight winter infections. Finally, Poplar bud macerate seems to have a urinary tropism, in the case of urinary infections, inflammation of the bladder, cystitis... Latin name: Populus nigra L. Part used: buds

Main properties

  • anticoagulant, circulatory, antisclerotic :

poplar bud macerate mainly intervenes in the circulatory sphere. It acts effectively on the physiological functions of the arterial system as a tonic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and anti-sclerotic agent of the arteries. It is also a drainer and an anticoagulant, which promotes collateral circulation. It fights against the formation of atherosclerotic plaques and reduces the risk of thrombosis (formation of clots). In addition, Poplar buds have a particular tropism for the lower limbs, hence their use is perfectly suited to the treatment of arteriopathies, arteritis or arterial vascular insufficiency of the lower limbs.

  • anti-inflammatory :

poplar bud macerate promotes renal elimination of acids which tend to maintain certain joint inflammations. It thus reduces the level of uric acid. Its propolis-like action makes it useful for all inflammations of the mucous membranes as well, and it also promotes healing of the bladder.

  • immunostimulant, anti-infectious :

poplar buds are covered in resin at harvest time, which bees use to make propolis. Studies have shown that there are similarities between the two. Poplar buds are thus qualified as "propolis-like", since they have anti-infectious properties, useful for the ENT sphere, the bladder or the skin. The bud macerate also has a slight propolis taste, and helps boost the immune system, to be used as soon as viral diseases spread. It also has balsamic and anticatarrhal properties.
